Route Tips

It helps to treat Sokcho and Gangneung as two separate bases. In Sokcho, pair the Daepo Harbor restaurants with a stay at Bau-Haus Pension, then spend the next day around Sokcho Beach's restaurants and cafe and Yeongnangho Lake before heading to Seoraksan or Cheoksan Hot Spring. Yangyang Surf Beach fits naturally on the drive between Sokcho and Gangneung, while the Goseong Unification Observatory to the north is easier as its own outing. In Gangneung, group Chodang Sundubu, Soon Tofu Gelato, and the two Chodang cafes together, then fill other meals with Anmok Beach, Gyeongpo Makguksu, and dak galbi. Samyang Roundhill sits on a mountaintop, so allow plenty of travel time.
