Jeonbuk on Screen: Jeonju Hanok Village, Gyeonggijeon Shrine, and Sigol Sundae in Jinan

2026-10-11

From Jeonju's Hanok Village and Gyeonggijeon Shrine to a sundae gukbap spot in Jinan that opens for only about three hours a day, here are the Jeonbuk places featured in travel and TV videos.

Jeonbuk: A Region Remembered Through Food

Jeonju, the heart of Jeonbuk province, is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and home to the well-known Hanok Village, a neighborhood of traditional Korean houses. Food is a big part of any trip here: Jeonju bibimbap, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), hanjeongsik (a full-course Korean table spread), and the snacks served in the city's makgeolli (rice wine) alleys. Below are the Jeonbuk spots and restaurants that have appeared in travel and TV videos.

Places to Visit

Jeonju Hanok Village

For many visitors, this is where a Jeonju trip begins. You can try bibimbap and all kinds of street food, or rent a hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and stroll the lanes. It features in 24 Hours in Jeonju – Hanok Village & Best Bibimbap, a day-in-the-city travel video, and in Korean Street Food at Jeonju Hanok Village, which focuses on the snacks sold around the village.

Gyeonggijeon Shrine

A historic site that enshrines the royal portrait of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon dynasty. It's a good way to add some history between meals. The shrine appeared in the Korean variety show Welcome, First Time in Korea? (어서와 한국은 처음이지), in Episode 266, where four brothers from New Zealand visited Jeonju, enjoyed hanjeongsik, and toured Gyeonggijeon.

Sigol Sundae (Jinan)

Located in Jinan County rather than Jeonju, this restaurant serves sundae gukbap, a hearty soup with Korean blood sausage and rice. It is known for being open only about three hours a day. It was featured in Episode 14 (Jinan) of Paik Jong-won's market show (백종원의 님아 그 시장을 가오), in an episode about a gukbap spot that opens for just three hours daily.

Getting Around

Jeonju Hanok Village and Gyeonggijeon Shrine pair well on foot, so one easy plan is to have bibimbap or street food in the village and then visit the shrine. Sigol Sundae is in Jinan, a separate area from Jeonju, and its opening window is short, so check its hours before you go, allow plenty of travel time, and consider treating it as a separate outing rather than squeezing it into your Jeonju day.
