Temple Stay & Sunmudo Demonstration at Golgulsa Temple

Andong Hahoe Village – Where K-Dramas Get Their Soul

Gyeongbuk on Screen: Silla Heritage, Hahoe Village and Market Stews

2026-10-11

A guide to Gyeongbuk places seen on video, from Silla-era Gyeongju and Andong's Hahoe Village to market eateries in Gyeongsan, Gumi and Pohang.

About Gyeongbuk

Gyeongbuk (North Gyeongsang Province) is home to Gyeongju, the capital of the Silla kingdom for about a thousand years, and to Andong's Hahoe Village, a living traditional village. Local food highlights include Andong jjimdak (braised chicken), the eateries of Gyeongju's Hwangnidan-gil street, and Pohang mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). Below are places that have appeared in videos, grouped by area.

Gyeongju: Tracing the Silla Kingdom

Gyeongju National Museum

The place to see the famous Silla gold crowns. It was featured in a recap episode of the Korean travel show Welcome, First Time in Korea?, whose Gyeongju episode runs "from the museum's gold crowns to a Silla moonlit night." A good first stop for getting to know Silla culture.

Cheomseongdae Observatory

An astronomical observatory from the Silla period, especially loved for its night views, often described as a "Silla moonlit night." Watching the same Gyeongju episode is a nice way to preview the atmosphere.

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond

One of Gyeongju's best-known night view spots. Most visitors come after sunset to see the palace buildings and pond under lights.

Bulguksa Temple

A temple known for its two stone pagodas, Seokgatap and Dabotap. It fits naturally into a day of exploring Gyeongju's Silla heritage.

Golgulsa Temple

A temple known for Sunmudo, a Buddhist martial art, and for its templestay program. The video Temple Stay & Sunmudo Demonstration at Golgulsa Temple shows both the stay and a Sunmudo demonstration.

Hwangnam Bread

A Gyeongju bakery selling Hwangnam bread, the city's signature red bean pastry. Handy as a snack on the go or as a souvenir.

Andong: A UNESCO Folk Village

Andong Hahoe Village

A traditional village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Andong & Hahoe Village – UNESCO, Hanok Stay & Market covers a hanok stay and the local market, while Andong Hahoe Village – Where K-Dramas Get Their Soul presents it as a village that captures the feel of Korean dramas. While in Andong, consider trying the city's signature dish, Andong jjimdak.

Market Flavors: Gyeongsan, Gumi and Pohang

Jinryang Dwaeji Jjigae (Gyeongsan)

A pork stew restaurant. It appeared in EP.05 (Gyeongsan) of Paik Jong-won's market series Nima, Geu Sijang-eul Gao, introduced as a stew house where only the owner is allowed to touch the ladle.

Dosan Sigyuk Sikdang (Gumi)

Known for a pork stew loaded with garlic. It was featured in EP.29 (Gumi) of the same series, under the title "half meat, half garlic pork stew."

Uhyeon Haemuljjim (Pohang)

A spot for braised monkfish (agujjim). It appeared in EP.43 (Pohang) of Paik Jong-won's market series. If you are in Pohang, it pairs well with the city's other well-known dish, mulhoe, for a seafood-focused visit.

Route Tips

Give Gyeongju at least a full day. Spend daylight hours at places that take longer, such as the Gyeongju National Museum, Bulguksa and Golgulsa, then head to Cheomseongdae and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond after dark for the night views. Pick up Hwangnam bread as a snack along the way. If you plan a templestay at Golgulsa, set aside a night for it. Pohang sits on the same east coast side as Gyeongju, so the two combine easily, while Andong's Hahoe Village is more relaxed as a separate day trip or paired with a hanok stay. The pork stew spots in Gyeongsan and Gumi work best as a meal stop when passing through those cities.
