Gangwon-do Signature Dishes at Sokcho Traditional Market,

Gangwon on Screen: Food and Sights from Sokcho Market to Chuncheon Dakgalbi

2026-10-11

A guide to Gangwon places featured in travel videos and Korean TV shows: Sokcho's seafood market, Chuncheon dakgalbi with Nami Island, and local eateries in Wonju, Cheorwon and Yanggu.

Gangwon: Eating Between the Mountains and the Sea

Gangwon is Korea's nature getaway, home to the East Sea coast, Seoraksan mountain and Nami Island. Many of its dishes carry a place name: Chuncheon dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), Sokcho snow crab and raw-fish noodles, Gangneung Chodang soft tofu, and makguksu buckwheat noodles. Below are the restaurants and spots that have appeared in travel videos and Korean TV shows, grouped by area.

Sokcho

Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market

A market where you can try dakgangjeong (sweet-crispy fried chicken), squid sundae (stuffed squid) and snow crab in one visit. It appears in Gangwon-do Signature Dishes at Sokcho Traditional Market and in Sokcho Trip – Beach, Cafes, Central Market & Makgeolli Bread, which also covers the beach, cafes and makgeolli bread. The Korean food show Heo Young-man's Baekban Gihaeng (episode 159) featured its stalls selling snow crab.

Chuncheon and Nami Island

Chuncheon Myeongmul Dakgalbi

A dakgalbi restaurant on the way to Nami Island, a handy stop for Chuncheon's signature dish. It's part of the route in Chuncheon Dakgalbi & Nami Island and Seoul to Chuncheon Korea.

Nami Island

An island known for its paths lined with tall metasequoia trees. You can see it in Chuncheon Dakgalbi & Nami Island, which pairs the island with a dakgalbi meal.

Wonju

Gohyang Boribap

A restaurant serving a ssambap set (rice with leafy wraps) and pork belly. It was featured in episode 15 (Wonju) of Baek Jong-won's market show Nima Geu Sijangeul Gao, which focuses on eating pork belly wrapped in greens, along with traditional Korean liquor.

Cheorwon

Seonghwan Sikdang

Known for squid mulhoe, a cold raw-fish soup. Episode 21 (Cheorwon) of Nima Geu Sijangeul Gao introduced it under the title "Is this mulhoe?", hinting that it's not quite the version most people expect.

Yanggu

Paroho Gukbap

A place for yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) and gukbap (rice soup). Episode 25 (Yanggu) of Nima Geu Sijangeul Gao showed it serving yukgaejang in mountain-sized portions.

Photo Spot

BTS Bus Stop

A bus stop known as a BTS album photo location, popular with fans and travelers for souvenir photos. For a taste of the East Sea coastline, the Welcome, First Time in Korea? highlight clip of visitors seeing the Gangneung sea is worth a look.

Getting Around

Gangwon covers a lot of ground, so it's easier to plan by area rather than trying to see everything in one trip. Chuncheon Myeongmul Dakgalbi and Nami Island fit together nicely as a day trip, while Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market works best as part of an East Sea coast itinerary alongside the beach. The restaurants in Wonju, Cheorwon and Yanggu are spread across inland Gangwon, so treat each as a meal stop when you pass through that town. Opening hours and closing days aren't listed here, so check them before you go.
