대전역 근처 원도심에 성심당과 중앙시장이 모여 있어서, 대전을 거점으로 잡고 청주·천안은 당일치기로 다녀오기 좋아요. 제천과 음성은 대중교통 시간이 길어서 자동차 여행에 더 맞아요. 시장 식당은 일찍 문을 닫거나 재료가 떨어지면 영업을 마치는 곳이 많으니, 점심 시간에 맞춰 가세요.

6 Market Eats in Chungcheong – From Paik Jong-won's Market Tour to Daejeon's Sungsimdang

Eumseong, Cheonan, Cheongju, Jecheon and Daejeon: market restaurants and a famous bakery from YouTube, with map links.

Chungcheong is only one to two hours from Seoul by KTX or express bus, yet it stays off most travel lists, which is exactly why so many old market restaurants survive here. Below are the Chungcheong spots from chef Paik Jong-won's YouTube series Market Tour (님아 그 시장을 가오), plus Sungsimdang, the bakery people travel to Daejeon for.

Market restaurants

Eumseong – Tojong Maeul

A pork-soup-and-rice spot near Gamgok Market, introduced in the video as a 4,000-won bowl that has fed local students for years.

Cheonan – Halmae Mugeunji Jijimi

Long-aged kimchi, slowly braised. The video title sums up the reaction: "anything tastier than this would be cheating."

Cheongju – Uam Seolleongtang

Officially a beef-bone soup restaurant, but the star of the video is the boiled pork (suyuk), served only four plates a day. Go early.

Jecheon – Wolseongjip

Known for a seriously spicy squid salad. If you are sensitive to heat, order carefully.

Snacks and bread in Daejeon

Daejeon – Haengbok Bunsik

A long-running snack shop serving chewy jjolmyeon noodles and dumplings.

Daejeon – Sungsimdang

A bakery found only in Daejeon, famous for its fried soboro bread. Several travel vloggers name it as their reason to visit the city.

Route tips

Sungsimdang and Daejeon's Central Market are both in the old downtown near Daejeon Station, so Daejeon makes a good base, with Cheongju and Cheonan as day trips. Jecheon and Eumseong take longer by public transport and suit a road trip better. Many market restaurants close early or when ingredients run out, so aim for lunchtime.
